The World of Entertainment

Entertainment. The word means so many things to so many people, embraces so many things delivered over so many media. Some forms of it we see, others we hear. In the past, technology used for entertainment has included the phonograph, radio, television, cassette player, CD player, VCR, DVD player, iPod, and mp3 player. And now the Web has come to embrace many of the functions once covered by older media,so that you can now listen to music or watch TV shows and movies on Youtube, Grooveshark, MySpace, and the websites of TV networks.

And there are those entertainment sources that one can participate in actively. Fun parks such as Disneyland have sprung up all over the world, and millions of people go on vacation yearly just to visit them. People also go to museums to see various scientific items on display, and to circuses to watch animal shows. Many also like to go skiing or swimming, or to a sports game… The possibilities are almost endless!

Fun and games are so all- pervasive in our lives today, it is hard to believe how we could ever manage without them. But for the great sweep of human history, only a few people had the time for large- scale entertainment. The rest simply had to devote most of their daily lives to finding enough food to survive (though they did make up work songs to help them along the way). But let us now long at various forms of recreational activity.
